This is my sixth year at Oakleaf and I am most happy to be at this school with the dynamic and diverse population of outstanding students. I am teaching five sections of Sociology this year.
Sociology often delves into contemporary and adult subjects; each student shall have a signed parental statement of understanding in order to fully participate in the class. If, as a parent, you did not sign this statement, please contact me immediately via one of the means below.
Understanding concepts in Sociology occurs best, in my opinion when there is a free flow of discussion and opinions, therefore, classroom participation will be encouraged and a weekly grade will be entered regarding participation. For this reason, frequent absences from class will affect the overall grade negatively.
There will be frequent (almost daily) readings/homework or responses to the class work that day. This may be made up if it is missed due to an excused absence within the time guidelines set by school policy. If the absence is unexcused, then the assignment must be made up on the day after the student returns. Extenuating circumstances will be discussed on an individual basis.
My goal is to promote thought and problem solving not rubber stamp busy work or maliciously fail students. Assignments have a purpose and effort, participation and engagement are rewarded.
The easiest way to contact me is via e-mail – firstname.lastname@example.org. I may also be reached through the main school number – 904-336-8375. If I am unable to answer my classroom phone when you call, please leave a message and I will make every attempt to return your call in the next 24 hours.
